About the resource

High Five Spanish is a resource aimed at young learners of Spanish. Featuring engaging video and audio materials, activity sheets and notes for teachers, High Five Spanish aims to encourage children to develop their language skills, to increase their understanding, to acquire an awareness of another culture and to build a solid foundation for future learning.

What's involved?

Each High Five Spanish pack features ten lessons, covering common language structures and a range of topics appropriate for younger learners. Each lesson centres around a video episode featuring our presenters. Additional materials help learners consolidate the language taught through audio materials and activity sheets.

Each lesson contains:

  • Main Video Lesson: the video episodes are the main focus of each lesson. In the videos, Marina and Miguel present that language along with Sophie, encouraging viewers to try to repeat the words and phrases. The video episodes are around just four or five minutes long, so they offer plenty of opportunities for teachers to pause and review the words and phrases covered.
  • Radio Show: in addition to the video episode, each lesson also features audio content in the form of the High Five Spanish Radio Show. This gives learners the chance to practise the words and phrases covered in the video lessons. Presented by an experienced teacher, accompanied by Marina or Miguel, the Radio Show is the perfect additional resource to help children learn Spanish.
  • Activity Sheets: the key to learning a language is consolidation and practice, and we have included a range of materials to help learners master the words and phrases of each lesson. Our Activity Sheets provide written exercises in the form of puzzles, games and writing activities. The sheets are in pdf format, so can be downloaded and printed.
  • Notes for Parents: each lesson comes with notes for parents which include detailed explanations of all words and phrases featured in the lessons; close-up notes on the patterns and grammar points covered; ideas to help your children take their learning further.

How does this course work?

When you purchase High Five Spanish Pack 1 you get immediate access to lessons 1 and 2. Lessons 3 and 4 will be delivered automatically to you after one week, with lessons 5 and 6 the week after, and so on. There is quite a bit to cover in each lesson, and this way your child will be able to work through the video episode, the audio materials and the worksheets for the lesson, laying a strong foundation on which to build further learning. By your fifth week you'll have access to all ten lessons, and you will continue to have access to these ten lessons for the remaining period of your subscription.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many lessons are included in this course?
High Five Spanish Season 1 includes ten lessons, as listed in the Course Curriculum above. For each lesson there is a video episode, an audio episode, vocabulary list, activity sheets, transcript and notes for parents.
How long do I have access to the course?
This course has an annual recurring fee. This means that you'll pay once at the start of year 1, and then you'll be charged again to continue to have access to these resources at the start of year 2, unless you cancel before that time. Don't worry - we'll remind you that your renewal is due and give you plenty of time to cancel if you no longer need to access the resource.
When will the next season be available?
New seasons of High Five Spanish will be made available over time. We've filmed four seasons in total, so each season will be added as a separate course in the Coffee Break Academy.
What type of Spanish is used in this series?
Sophie is learning Spanish with Marina and Miguel who live in the south of Spain. Both Marina and Miguel speak in clear, standard Spanish as used in Spain. However, the Spanish words and phrases learned will be understood throughout the Spanish-speaking world, so Sophie will be able to talk to Spanish speakers from Argentina to Mexico!
I don't speak any Spanish but I want my child to learn: does this matter?
We've created High Five Spanish with exactly that in mind! We've included comprehensive notes for parents with every lesson: these will help you to understand how the language works and you'll be able to answer your child's questions!
What age is this course aimed at?
High Five Spanish is aimed at younger learners and we've found that even very young children love learning with Sophie. At a basic level, each episode just contains a few words or phrases, so young children can learn these easily. However, there's more to each episode and older children can pick up the other words and expressions included. We'd suggest that High Five Spanish is perfect for learners aged 5-11.
